Binay backs DFA chief over Trillanes' 'treason' blast
MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay on Friday expressed suport for Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Albert del Rosario amid Senator Antonio Trillanes' alleged accusation that del Rosario committed "treason" in his territorial-dispute talks with China.
"The official (foreign) policy comes from Secretary del Rosario. Then you have someone calling him a traitor. That's rather unfortunate," Binay said in a press statement.
"He is correctly guiding our foreign policy. And he speaks for the President in matters of foreign policy. It saddens me that this has happened," He said.
Binay was referring to the alleged remarks made by the senator contained in the so-called notes of former Ambassador to China Sonia Brady.
He said Del Rosario is hardworking and a man of action, citing the Foreign Secretary's role in ensuring the safe return of Filipino workers from Libya and Syria.
