Grenade explodes near Greenhills shopping center
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – A fragmentation grenade exploded at the basement office of a corporation in Greenhills, San Juan early morning on Saturday.
The blast occurred at 1:15 a.m. at the basement office of LK Global Holdings Corporation in Bonaventure Plaza along Ortigas Avenue, just across the Greenhills Shopping Center.
“After initial findings ng nag post blast investigation, ini-lob siya. After few hours, na-discover yung safety lever ng Granada,” said Senior Superintendent Rainier Espina, chief of the San Juan Police.
Espina said they have invited security personnel who were on duty during the blast to help shed light into the incident.
“We already invited two security personnel--one security officer, one security guard. We already brought them to the San Juan Police Station for further investigation,” said Espina.
However, the security personnel are still clueless as to the culprits and motives in the explosion. They said they were given a list of names of employees banned from entering the office of LK Global Holdings Corporation.
Eduardo Cordonio, one of the security officers, said he was lucky that he was not roving at the basement area when the explosion happened.
No one was injured in the incident, but the front glass panels and main glass door were shattered into pieces due to the blast. Shrapnels also caused some damage to the surrounding concrete walls.
“Buti naman po wala puro glass panel, properties lang. Buti naman po yun ang nangyari,” he said.
Authorities are still investigating the blast.
“On going pa rin yung aming investigation. We’re still looking deeper into the matter. Mahirap mag speculate,” the police chief said.
Espina added that the explosion is an isolated case and the intention to cause panic especially to Greenhills shoppers is farfetched.
He added investigation is focused on the qualified theft filed by the company against its three employees who are now reportedly detained in Bulacan.
Espina believes this could be a possible strong motive behind the explosion.
Meanwhile, he assured the public, particularly the shoppers in Greenhills, of strong police visibility as the Christmas season draws near. Reports from Dominic Almelor, ABS-CBN News and Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
