‘Django’ triumphant in West Coast Challenge

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino billiards icon Francisco “Django” Bustamante added another trophy to his collection after winning the 2012 West Coast Challenge at the California Billiard Club in Mountain View, California.

Bustamante scored six in a row to beat Raj Hundal of India, 8-4, in the finals and capture his second event title in the 10-ball competition last weekend.

Sportsman and businessman Aristeo “Butch” Puyat hailed Bustamante’s victory, saying, “Once again, our flag has been raised in this foreign land.”

Bustamante went home with the top prize of $5,200, raising his total money earnings to $8,200.

Last April 25, Bustamante downed John Schmidt of the United States, 4-2, in the One-Pocket event finals to receive the $3,000 champions purse.

Ramon “Maestro Monching” Mistica of Quezon City wound up tied for the seventh to eighth places with Corey Deuel of the United States in the 10-ball event, while Santos Sambajon of Quezon province landed in a tie for the ninth to 12th places.

Mistica received a $700 prize, while Sambajon took home $500.

Filipino pool legend Jose “Amang” Parica, meanwhile, landed at the ninth to 12th places in the One-Pocket event and took home $200. By Marlon Bernardino
