MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – B-Meg Derby Ace won the pivotal Game 5 of the PBA Commissioner's Cup finals, beating defending champion Talk N’ Text Tropang Texters, 82-66.

Two-time Most Valuable Player James Yap led the Llamados in front of more than 15,000 fans with 30 points and 9 rebounds.

He also shot 4-out-of-4 from beyond the arc, helping B-Meg break the series deadlock with Talk N’ Text. They now lead the finals, 3-2.

“Crucial talaga ang game na ‘to,” said Yap, B-Meg's 6’3” swingman. “Natulala na ko sa pagod pero kelangan talaga manalo.”

Defense did it

Yap said it was their defensive effort that led to the Texters’ downfall in Game 5.

The Llamados again clipped Talk N’ Text’s gunners Jimmy Alapag and Ranidel de Ocampo, and this limited the Texters’ offensive options.

“Pinag-aralan talaga namin kung paano ma-contain yung mga wingman nila,” said Yap.

“It's all about performance, it's really about effort,” said Llamados coach Tim Cone. “Tonight we put up a really good effort.”

B-Meg led at half-time

The Llamados took the early lead by dominating the Texters with a 24-15 blast in the first quarter.

Yap found his mark in the second quarter. His booming triple capped a searing 16-3 exchange against Talk N’ Text, which allowed B-Meg to take the lead at the half, 41-33.

Jared Dillinger and Harvey Carey picked up the cudgels for Talk N’ Text in the third quarter and brought the Texters within 1 point, 45-44.

Bowles and Yap, however, managed to keep the Llamados afloat, 59-53.

Dillinger tried to stop the bleeding for the Texters by sinking a triple to bring the scores to 56-64.

Alapag later managed to escape and connect a trey to peg the scores at 66-59 with over 5 minutes remaining.

Yap and Bowles lead scorers

But Yap and Bowles continued to defy Talk N’ Text’s defense as they piled points en route to their Game 5 win.

Denzel Bowles churned in 28 points to support Yap’s 30-point explosion.

Dillinger top-scored for the Texters with 18 points, while Jason Castro had 16.

Import Donnell Harvey was limited to only 13 points.

B-Meg now only needs to win one more game to wrest the title from Talk N’ Text.

Game 6 of the title series is on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
