Nishioka is Donaire’s dream fight

MANILA, Philippines – World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight titlist Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. said he plans to collect all the 122-pound belts by taking on the reigning champions, one by one.

On top of his list is International Boxing Federation (IBF) super bantamweight king Jeffrey Methabula, whom he will face in unification title bout on July 7.

“My long-time dream has been to become the undisputed champion. So if everything goes well with Mathebula, then we can go and get the WBA (World Boxing Association) or the WBC (World Boxing Council) belt,” Donaire told RingTV.

He is referring to the titles owned by Guillermo Rigondeaux of Cuba and Abner Mares of Mexico.

Rigondeaux holds the WBA belt, while Mares is the WBC champion.

“So if those guys want to fight me, then, please, just hold on to your belts, because I want to come after them,” said Donaire.

Donaire, however, admitted that his dream fight would by against Toshiaki Nishioka, the WBC emeritus champion and The RING’s No. 1 super bantamweight champion in the world.

“But I think that the best guy in this division that I want to prove myself against is Nishioka. I think that Nishioka is the better guy of all of these guys,” said the Filipino Flash.

“He's proven himself above all of these guys, and I promised him that I would fight him. So maybe if everything goes well this year, then maybe I can fight him in another fight.”

ABS-CBN will air the Donaire-Mathebula fight card on Channel 2 on July 8, Sunday, starting at 10 am.
