'Pacman-Floyd now possible with 50 Cent at helm'
MANILA, Philippines – The Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight may finally happen with the arrival of rapper 50 Cent in the boxing promotions business., according to Top Rank’s Bob Arum.
Arum said he hopes that reports about 50 Cent partnering with Mayweather for The Money Team (TMT) Promotions are true.
"I would think that if (50 Cent) promoted Floyd, then it would make a matchup between Pacquiao and Mayweather that much easier," said Arum in RingTV.
Arum said 50 Cent, or Curtis Jackson in real life, can be beneficial to Mayweather’s career.
"You would have somebody that is a friend and a mentor that he can rely on and they would protect his interests in any kind of promotion, and I would be on the side of Pacquiao," said the Top Rank CEO.
Mayweather’s recent fights were promoted by Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, which has a long history of animosity with Bob Arum’s Top Rank.
The wedge between Golden Boy and Top Rank is one of the reasons blocking the mega-fight.
But Arum said things have certainly changed when reports of Mayweather switching promotions came out.
"Certainly in a deal where Mayweather had his own promotional company, and Pacquiao his own, being us, I think that it would work splendidly," Arum said.
